Wine tastings, historic furniture and private hosting in Bergen and elsewhere in Norway.
I’m Alette Hjelmeland, a sommelier with a background in business and hospitality, and a long-standing interest in historic furniture and craftsmanship.
Sans & Samling brings these interests together through tastings, a private collection of historic furniture, and personal hosting for private and corporate events.
The collection and workshop are based in Voss. For tastings and hosting, I come to you – in Bergen, or elsewhere in Norway by arrangement.

Historic furniture is available to hire for weddings, celebrations and events, as well as photo shoots, styling, film, television and commercial productions.
From a single statement chair or table to several pieces for a particular setting.
Care and restoration
Advice on the care, conservation and repair of historic furniture, working with specialist craftspeople when required.

Tastings
Wine first – with beer and cider too.
My tastings are informal and conversational. We explore what is in the glass: where it comes from, how it was made, and the people, places and traditions behind it.
Wine is my main field, but I also offer beer and cider tastings, as well as bespoke tastings for groups looking for something different.
I come to your home, workplace or chosen venue. We agree on a theme, and I prepare the tasting and send you a shopping list in advance. You buy the drinks; I lead the tasting.

I come to your home or venue and take care of the practical side of hosting – welcoming guests, table service, wine and keeping the evening running smoothly.
I am also available as a toastmaster for weddings and other celebrations.
Hosting from NOK 7,900.
Travel outside Bergen not included.
The collection
At the heart of Sans & Samling is a private collection of historic furniture, with a particular focus on furniture made by Chr. Knag in Bergen.
The collection has been built over many years and continues to grow and change. New pieces and photographs are added to the website regularly.
The collection also inspired the book Knag – håndverksmøbler fra Bergen, published by KODE in 2020.
The Chr. Knag workshop operated in Bergen from 1878 to 1975. Its furniture won awards at the world’s fairs in Paris in 1900 and St. Louis in 1904.

The furniture is always real. The setting does not have to be.
